He is the author of more than 70 books, including the NIrV Book of Devotions. Mark holds a master's of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He lives near Kansas City, MO.

The Kid’s Book of Devotions, authored by Mark Littleton and published by Zonderkids, is billed as “a 365 day adventure in God’s Word.” My family is generally excited when I receive a new kids book to review and fight over “who’s book it is.” This book though was a struggle, not only for the children but for the parents as well. Granted, this book may be a little over the head of a 5 and 8 year old at this point (the book does not have a recommended reading age/level). The cover design is attractive but the content encourages me to pick up another devotional instead.
The daily devotional content included a scripture passage (NIrV), a short message/devotion, and a prayer. As we began reading through this devotional together as a family, my wife and I learned quickly to proof the reading for the day. Why? Because the verse translation or devotional content brought up topics that I would really rather not discuss during our night time devotions. There are no major theological flaws in the content but some of the discussions contained may not be appropriate to discuss just yet with my children. There were a few devotions that I did not agree with either, not to mention the nights that we ended up discussing Adolf Hilter (not a subject you want to leave your child to ponder overnight).
The Allen family will choose to leave this work on the bookshelf and use resources like Lifeway’s Bible Express Devotional magazine instead.

The Kids Book of Devotions A 36-Day Adventure in God’s Word by Mark Littleton

As a mom I want my kids to dig into God’s word and spent time thinking about what they read in God’s word. I was pretty excited when The Kids Book of Devotions A 36-Day Adventure in God’s Word came available to review.
The devotional is attended for ages 7-11. This palm sized paperback book is 379 pages. The devotional is set up by date. So you start on the date you begin using it not the first page. Each day starts out with a scripture passage. Afterwards a short commentary on the scripture passage. Just remember that when you deal with commentary you sometimes deal with a person’s option of how they translate God’s word. For the most part I didn’t see anything that raised my flags overall. Not all I agreed with overall but, I think it’s a good way to take time to sit down and discuss the reading each day.
Each day covers only one page. They are short and make it more appealing to most children’s attention spans. This could be read by itself or can be used to dig deeper into God’s word.
Overall, this is a nice devotional for kids. I plan on letting my kids use this as part of their daily reading. I will read beforehand to see if the topic is something I want to discuss with them afterwards.

While this has spiritual truths and is mostly biblical, I wouldn't recommend it to people seeking to teach younger children about God. Topics include demon possession (April 14); and, a title like "How Would You Like to be Homeless?" (May 10) that ties lying with homelessness and cites Cain as the example of why lying yields homelessness. The former is a relevant topic, but hard to communicate to a young child. The latter bases the argument so loosely on that one story that it makes it seem like a lying child is bound for homelessness.
It's more geared toward an older child, but I would never recommend this devotional to a serious Christian who is looking for a solid way to teach their children about God.
